Bologna has a semi-continental Po Valley climate (Köppen Cfa classification): cold, humid winters and hot, muggy summers, with humidity noticeable in both seasons.

Average temperatures range from 3-4°C in January to 25-26°C in July-August, with summer peaks that can exceed 35°C on the hottest, most humid days. Rainfall is moderate (about 650-800 mm/year), mostly in spring and autumn. From mid-October to February the sky is often grey and fog is not uncommon on the plain. Snow in the city is possible but not frequent.
