When to go to Bologna

Bologna

When to go to Bologna.

History

Bologna is worth visiting year-round, but some periods offer a more pleasant experience than others — both for the weather and the crowds.

What to see

April-June and September-October are the best periods: mild temperatures, long days, a lively city thanks to the university presence. July and August are hot and muggy, and in August many local businesses (especially non-touristy restaurants and shops) close for holidays — always check hours during this month. November-March is the coldest, greyest period, but also the quietest, with fewer tourists and generally lower accommodation prices.

Did you know…

  • Bologna is a university city: during the academic year (September-May) it's especially lively, while in midsummer many students are away.
